Popular Indian Ocean Islands
The French island of Réunion lies 800 km east of Madagascar. In these modern days of air travel it remains one of the tourist “secrets” to be discovered. It is not as well known as its neighbours Mauritius and the Seychelles and lies 500km west of Madagascar.
There is an active volcano on its south coast with steep mountains and forests inland and great beaches along its west coast. Hiking, biking, canyoning, surfing and scuba diving are popular. It has a great bird population and generally is an untouched paradise, not yet overrun by tourists.
