Popular Indian Ocean Islands
The island of Mauritius is approximately 2400 kilometers off the South East Coast of Africa. It is 45 x 65km and covers an area of 1,865² km and has a 330 kilometers of coastline. Its population is 1,2 million people. Whilst the main languages are French and English there is also a local mixture of language known as Creole. It does have a multi-ethnic population representing Hindus, Muslims, Creoles, Chinese and Europeans who live in peace. Mauritians are known for their tolerance and kindness towards all people. Mauritius economy is one of Africa’s few success stories, being a sugar and clothing exporter and a center for up-market tourism.
